Barnett does an amazing job recounting the lives of three Irish military men and how their paths intertwine. Heighly recommend this book!
I shed many tears while reading this book. I do not have a military background, yet in many surprising unexpected ways this book touched me and moved me personally as I look back on my own life journey. It will have a lasting impact on me as I think about "coming out into the open" and trusting God with my issues. We all have "stuff." This is one of the few books I have read in my life that I will always remember. I thank the men in the book for their transparency and willingness to share. Thank you.
A powerful story of transformation. I really enjoyed this, but more was moved deeply by it. The authenticity and character of these three gentlemen is refreshing and challenging. In many stories similar to this we see heroic deeds and acts of bravery glorified and the individuals made out to be almost super human. In stark contrast these stories are told with grace and humility, warts and all, as John, Ger and Kevin speak from the heart about their own journey, experiences and failings. Bethany Barnett captures the essence of these great but humble men in an accessible must read account of what true courage looks like. Highly recommended.
Bethany brings together the amazing testimonies of three Irish war vets who became outlaw bikers. Their stories from childhood through the military and bike gangs to absolutely hitting the bottom are heartbreakingly tragic and spellbinding. The "About Face" with Jesus that they all experience and the way it affects each of their lives is truly inspirational.
This book is a great witness for anyone struggling to find calm during the storms of life regardless of whether the storm involves the military or war, motorcycle gangs, marital discord, loss, or personal choices...for anyone searching for answers. A must read.
I rarely read book as I don't have time for them, but this was an exception. Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. I read the whole book within a day. I was fascinated by the history of Ireland's role with the UN in keeping peace in Lebanon. I don't want to give too much of the stories written by Bethany. However, I personally feel Bethany could do 3 separate books on each of the three individuals featured in this book. They are very inspirational in each of their own story, which any (e.g. any soldier with/without PTSD, victim of sexual abuse, etc..) reader with any background can relate. I highly suggest this to soldiers dealing with life coming back after being deployed. God bless those involve with any type of battle!
Highly recommend! Was easy to read, even with no personal military experience. I enjoyed how it switched between the 3 different accounts, and was surprised how they converged. I read it in one sitting. It encouraged me that there is hope for even the most "hopeless" of circumstances.
Impressed by the talent of Bethany, the author. She sensitively highlights three men's military journeys and the deep impact they had on their lives. Via an interview style, she thoughtfully presents the harsh reality of their military life experiences, but also with words of inspiration and hope that will help readers going through tough times. Highly recommended!
